Santeros (Saintmakers)

In the rugged Spanish colonies of 18th-century New Mexico, local artisans created wood carvings for the chapels and devout homes of their settlements. They were called saint-makers, “Santeros.”

Santeros presents several of the men and women who continue this artistic tradition today and explores how their art and culture have endured throughout the centuries.
